Bastian's dream this a.m. went as follows and pretty much in his words:

Mommy, some people were taking my night night last night. Yeah. I woke up and saw an octopus and he wanted my night night and I said sure and he took my night night. Etc.

Huh. Here's what I need to know. Can I write a book on this plot alone, sell over a million copies of it, and then go on to write three more bestsellers only to sell the movie rights to all 4 books following the WHOPPING success of the novels themselves?

Things My Kids are Thankful For ....

Sophie is thankful for the game of Memory, Charlie, paint, the playground, Mommy, the Bible, aunts and uncles, bed, Dad, Bastian, grandparents, Bingo game, food, clothes, baby doll, cousins, trees, and Bella (not all in that order).

Bastian is thankful for fireworks, bicycle, toys, Jesus, beautiful leaves, breakfast, apples, snacks, sisters, bulidings, bubble bath, and Mommy and Daddy

Bella is thankful for lots of people. Grammy, Sebastian, Papi, cousins, Nana, Grandpa, Poppop, Sophie, Daddy, Charlie, Mommy, and last--not a person--food.

We're Thankful for These 3!

Sweet as a Sophie

We saw Sophie's personality in various ultrasounds before she was even born. As a matter of fact, that's how we decided which girl was going to be Bella and which girl was going to be Sophie. This little girl was a little ball of energy in the womb. She performed for the "camera" during every ultrasound. I'm not sure she ever slept! (Which, if you know Sophie in real life you know that's not quite a true-to-life picture.)

Then when she was supposed to be born right after Bastian (who came 1 minute after his big sister), she was not having any of that. She was warm and cozy and safely nestled among mommy's ribs (even the doc said so!). Took 2 minutes to coax her out of her little resting spot.

Then if that weren't enough, the little spitfire kept pulling her iv out of her arm. They had to put it in her head (ouch!).

In so many ways those pictures illustrate our little Sophie. She's been called soft, and it's true. She's sweet. And she does NOT like to create trouble. She's a little peacemaker, too, always quietly trying to defend her siblings as they go into discipline battle!

She loves her 2 fingers and her night nights and knows when she needs to walk away and take a rest. And Soph is a bit of a homebody. When we were returning from a trip out of state to visit my sister, Soph said, "I can't wait to go to my beautiful home and my very own bed!" But on the other hand, she forces herself to come out of her little shy self to be friendly to others. I love that about her!

And to top it all off, she has an array of facial expressions that rival her Momma.

Soph prays like she's talking to God and really seems very tender to all things spiritual. I pray she comes to know Him!!

I love you Sophie girl, tiny bubbles, youngest child.

About a Boy

Boys really are different from girls, aren't they? I think I imagined this little guy was going to be quiet, typical middle child, introspective. I couldn't have been more wrong. He's always on the go, inquisitive (anyone who knows him knows his favorite question is "why?"), a daredevil, and totally into anything athletic.

And I love that about him. He finds joy and makes "shots" with it, kicks it into goals, cuts it with scissors, and anything else you can thing of. And in case you had any doubt about whether he was loving every minute of it, just look at those crinkled little eyes beaming up at ya. You'll know.

The kid has long-term memory that just won't quit and could probably give directions to some of our favorite jaunts.

He's got an infectious laughter and adores his daddy (and I can't help adoring anyone who adores his daddy) and one moment he can be torturing his sisters and turn around in another to be giving them his last favorite colored M&M. Most of the time I'm his glorified babysitter until daddy can be with him again, but he can't fool me. I know he needs me. When he's hurt, when he's sick, he climbs up in my lap and folds himself into me.

He's working to wrap his little mind around God and His many facets by asking questions only his little 4-year-old mind can think. I pray he continues to strive to know God throughout his life.

I love my little Sebastian man, the male child, my package!

Sands of Time ...

I feel the swiftly passing time more when it comes to this little girl than the other two. She seems like such a big girl (even as she just reached in her closet, grabbed a hangared sweater, and announced, "Momma, look at this--cute!") and really has always seemed like she's had one foot out of her current stage of development.

She has the incredible ability to take old information and apply it to a new situation (Ok, folks, I'm not saying she's a genius by national or worldwide standards. I realize I just defined learning at large. But she's my little genius, every day defying the puny brain power of the day before.) And when it comes to learning, she's always interested in the hows and whys and often repeats the information she gathers in other situations and settings.

She's independent and almost strong. But she craves affection and confirmation of love. Ahh the mystery that is female. She's 4-year-old witty and is often surprised when she makes us laugh! Oh to see the look on her face when one of her amused parents guffaws out loud (for both of her parents have a tendency to guffaw)--surprise and wonder, amusement but confusion as she doesn't know she's funny. A new personal fave, "Mom, I wish you were a little kid. "(After Mom asks why she responds...)"Because I want to be the mom and have lots of jewels!"

She loves learning about Jesus and singing about Him, and I pray one day she puts her faith in Him.

I don't know how else to put it, but perhaps I'll borrow some words I once read, I really, really, really, really, really, really, really dig her. (I guess you just had to be there!)

Love you precious firstborn, soft-hearted Boo Bear, strong little Daddy's girl. I'm so thankful God gave you to me.

Precious precious gift from my daughter to her daddy tonight:

Mommy, I want to get married and have a big poofy dress and have lots of people watching me and get married with my Daddy. Mommy, can I pray for that? Can I pray for that right now that God would let me get married with my Daddy and wear a big poofy dress and have lots of people watching?

And for those of you who want to take my moment from me here by pointing out 1)my four-year-old is ALREADY talking about getting married in 2)a big HUGE (read: expensive) wedding dress with 3)LOTS of people, let me say to you cup-is-half-empty-people that you ain't thinkin' anything I haven't already thought!

Halloween Hilarity

The people 2 houses down from us had a full-sized man statue thingy who was holding an axe in one hand and a hook on the other from which dangled a severed head (no less) on their lawn for Halloween. While out trick or treating the Sherflets noticed said monstrosity. We passed it off as silly so as not to cause any fear.

Sunday a.m. on the way to church, my Bella noticed it again. And this was her perception:
Mommy, we don't hold heads in our hands, do we? That's silly, right Mommy? We don't hold heads in our hands . . . pause . . . UNLESS they have hooks!!

My blog has been woefully neglected but with good reason. I'm out of pics!! As the kids haven't been so amenable to the picture thing, we've cut way back on the picture-taking. But I believe we're turning a corner. We're just starting to hear, "Mom, take a picture of me doing ." So I believe there will be more pics to come in the near future!
